Largest state organic organization streamlines volunteer and donor management

Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA), the oldest and largest state organic organization in the U.S., needed a better way to manage its volunteer-heavy operations and donor engagement. With fewer than 50 staff and more than 1,600 volunteers supporting a three-day fair with over 10,000 shifts, MOFGA was relying on manual, paper-based processes that made it difficult to track volunteer engagement, improve the volunteer experience, and analyze donor interactions. It turned to Virtuous for a more streamlined approach, including the VOMO volunteer management tool and later the Virtuous CRM and RaiseDonors.

Virtuous helped MOFGA implement VOMO to create customized volunteer landing pages, simplify sign-up and check-in, and integrate data across systems for a more unified supporter view. As a result, MOFGA registered over 1,600 volunteers and recorded nearly 20,000 volunteer hours in one year, generating an estimated $440,000 in economic impact. The new system also reduced phone calls and emails, saved staff time, and gave MOFGA a more user-friendly, integrated platform for managing volunteers and strengthening donor relationships.
