The Australia Post Talent Story – Enhancing The Assessment Process For Casual Talent At Scale

Australia Post, Australia’s national postal and logistics provider recruiting more than 2,500 casuals each year for Peak, faced declining casual performance, poor reliability and a high churn that hurt operational efficiency and customer experience. Needing to assess over 10,000 applicants at scale against role-specific behaviours, Australia Post partnered with the merit-based assessment tool Vervoe to build a more reliable, competency-focused hiring process.

Australia Post redesigned its recruitment around four key competencies (safety mindset, attention to detail, collaboration and resilience) and used Vervoe’s automated skills assessments (video, text and multiple-choice, integrated with their ATS) to grade candidates at scale. Early results show strong stakeholder feedback, more time spent interviewing qualified candidates, a drop in replacement/back-fill from 7% to 3%, and an expected 10% uplift in conversions from casual to permanent roles; completion rates sit at ~65% (target 75+) and integration teething issues are being resolved, but overall Vervoe has improved hire quality and hiring efficiency.
