DC Water engaged VertexOne to rule out revenue leakage from theft, uncollected or unbilled charges as capital project costs rose. VertexOne applied its Revenue Protection Analytics / Lost Revenue Analysis to examine meter-to-cash data, processes and controls and provide a data-backed assessment of potential revenue loss.
VertexOne combined stakeholder interviews, a detailed meter-to-cash process review, data preparation and a customized analytical model (segmentation, trend, peer-to-peer and longitudinal analyses) to prioritize fixes. The study produced 23 recommendations, identified 0.45% of annual revenue as potential lost revenue, 0.54% as at-risk, flagged 5.24% of accounts for further investigation, and prompted DC Water to form a cross-functional team, replace 140 large meters and approve replacing 15,000 meters/MTUs.
