Augmented reality inspires purchasing confidence in DFS shoppers

DFS, the UK-based furniture giant with over 100 stores and a top-ranked eCommerce site, faced a common retail challenge: 80% of customers researched online but bought offline (ROBO). Shoppers wanted to know how sofas would look, match their style, and fit their rooms without repeated store trips. To build an omnichannel, scalable solution for its catalog of more than 7,200 products, DFS partnered with Vertebrae to deploy web-based 3D and AR experiences.

Vertebrae delivered a web-native 3D & AR platform that let customers view true-to-scale, 360° sofa renderings on product pages (no app download), rolling out 7,225 SKUs on launch. The result: a 112% conversion lift and 106% revenue-per-visit increase for shoppers engaging with AR, a 22× ROI, and roughly 4× more incremental monthly revenue than forecast — benefits that proved especially valuable when stores closed during COVID-19.
