A Versa Networks Case Study
McLaren, the British Formula One team, faced the challenge of reliably transmitting enormous volumes of real-time telemetry and media-rich video from race circuits worldwide to its Technology Centre. Congested MPLS links caused jitter on live camera feeds and the legacy WAN made rapid, repeatable trackside deployments difficult. To address this, McLaren worked with NTT Communications and leveraged Versa Networks’ SD‑WAN solution to gain smarter traffic control and on‑demand bandwidth.
Versa Networks’ Secure SD‑WAN was deployed as part of a hybrid WAN (MPLS + direct Internet) to prioritize telemetry and video, perform dynamic traffic steering, and enable single-touch, centralized deployment at each race. The solution allowed McLaren to send 100 GB during the 2017 Japan Grand Prix without jitter, prioritize an estimated 11.8 billion data points per season, achieve 0% downtime, and drastically speed up trackside setup — benefits driven by Versa Networks’ software‑defined platform.
