Case Study: Swisscom achieves a secure Android-based multi-screen TV platform with Verimatrix VCAS

A Verimatrix Case Study

Preview of the Swisscom Case Study

Building a Secure Android-based TV Service Platform For Swisscom

Swisscom, Switzerland’s leading telecom operator, launched its Android‑based Swisscom TV 2.0 to deliver a hybrid multi‑network, multi‑screen pay‑TV experience with network DVR and rich on‑demand services. The primary challenge was protecting premium linear and live multicast IPTV and a new cardless revenue‑security model tightly integrated into set‑top box SoCs and the Android stack, so Swisscom turned to Verimatrix and its VCAS for IPTV solution.

Verimatrix implemented VCAS for IPTV with deep integration into the Marvell SoC and native TV players, enabling multi‑DRM MultiRights support, PlayReady for VoD, and a security‑hardened Android set‑top environment. The result: a secure, low‑cost platform that matched local HDD trick‑play performance, drove rapid adoption (about 300,000 homes on Swisscom TV 2.0 within months), increased time‑shifted and HD viewing, reduced set‑top cost by removing disks, and earned strong customer and industry acclaim.
