Preview of the IBM Case Study

IBM needed to replace outdated, expensive legacy systems with something modern, maintainable, and enterprise-ready

IBM, a global technology company, inherited a proprietary legacy commerce system that was costly and difficult to maintain. Their internal team faced significant bottlenecks, as even simple modifications to the outdated platform took developers days or weeks to implement. They needed a modern, maintainable solution from a vendor that could serve as a drop-in replacement without disrupting existing integrations.

The solution was a multi-tenant commerce platform built by IBM's team using Vendure's headless commerce platform. They developed 33 custom plugins to handle payments and internal messaging while leveraging Vendure's out-of-the-box functionality for 90% of their requirements. This implementation by Vendure resulted in the successful migration of key stores, including their Employee Purchase Program, and slashed the time required for system modifications from weeks to mere hours.
