Illumina Cuts 5 Months From Study Builds and Eliminates Regression Testing

Illumina, a next‑generation sequencing company running research and clinical studies across areas like reproductive health and oncology, struggled with slow, paper‑based EDC builds and long CRO-driven specification cycles that delayed trials and made rapid mid‑study changes difficult—a major problem during fast‑moving COVID‑19 work.

By adopting Veeva Vault CDMS (Vault EDC) and bringing builds in‑house, Illumina enabled rapid prototyping, auto‑generated specs, and empowered data managers to configure CRFs and basic rules. A system "Differences Report" eliminated full regression testing, allowing UAT to focus only on changes. The result: build times fell from about six months to one month, post‑production changes implemented in as little as one day, higher study‑team engagement, fewer UAT findings, and much greater trial agility.
