Heron Therapeutics, a San Diego–based biotech with 250+ employees developing oncology and acute care therapies and running 10+ studies across 50+ active sites, struggled with slow, error-prone trial operations. A legacy CTMS was not user-friendly or well integrated, workflows relied on Word and Excel trackers, and the company lacked visibility, analytics, and user adoption.

Heron implemented Veeva Vault CTMS integrated with Vault eTMF (and other Vault applications), using an agile rollout with SME engagement, role-based training, and practical job aids.
