Case Study: Microsoft Visual Studio achieves scalable, customer-driven product prioritization with UserVoice

A UserVoice Case Study

How Microsoft Visual Studio prioritizes product requests from their massive customer base

Microsoft Visual Studio’s Team Foundation Server (TFS) provides application lifecycle tools used by millions of developers. After expanding to the cloud as Visual Studio Team Services, TFS suddenly served many more small and mid-market customers and could no longer rely on one-on-one enterprise relationships to gather product feedback, creating a need to manage and prioritize user requests at scale.

TFS adopted UserVoice to collect and quantify feedback, linked popular suggestions bi-directionally to their backlog, and introduced clearer statuses (“Started,” “Planned”) with regular updates. More than 20,000 users contributed 2,300+ suggestions and the team completed 150 requests in the past year—improving roadmap prioritization, transparency, and customer engagement while helping justify engineering investments.
