Helix, a population genomics and precision health organization, partnered with UserTesting to improve the digital enrollment process for its community health research programs. Their challenge was to increase patient enrollment and access to genetic screening by moving away from UX decisions based on assumptions. They needed to create an evidence-based, user-friendly experience to support their growing number of health system partners, each aiming to enroll over 100,000 participants.

Using the UserTesting platform, Helix implemented a mixed-methods approach to gather human insights. They tested Figma prototypes, conducted behavioral click tests, and ran attitudinal surveys to optimize both top-of-funnel marketing and the enrollment process itself. This research led to critical changes, such as highlighting the no-cost nature of the program and rewriting privacy information in more accessible language. As a result, Helix saw a 27% increase in click-through rates on tested enrollment steps, achieved a 71 Net Promoter Score, and experienced a 5x increase in health system partners using their enrollment experience over three quarters.
