A Unity Case Study
Shedworks, a small indie studio in London, used Unity to help create its open-world adventure game Sable. Faced with the challenge of building a full-scale, narrative-driven game with a tiny team, limited budget, and mixed skill sets, the studio needed an efficient way to deliver a distinctive experience across PC and consoles.
Using Unity’s modular design approach along with tools from the Unity Asset Store such as MapMagic, ProBuilder, and Gameflow, Shedworks built reusable systems for characters, costumes, hoverbikes, narrative segments, and terrain generation. The result was a faster, more iterative development process that helped the team create expansive desert environments, ship a critically acclaimed game, and win PC Gamer’s 2021 Best Narrative while also earning nominations at The Game Awards and Golden Joystick Awards.
