A Unity Case Study
Timberborn developer Mechanistry, a small distributed team of 13, needed to build a scalable, beautiful, high-performance runtime UI for its complex beaver city-builder while moving fast in Early Access. As the game grew, the team struggled with uGUI: layouts broke easily, assets were hard to reuse, and frequent merge conflicts slowed development.
Mechanistry switched to Unity UI Toolkit, using Unity’s web-inspired UI system to rebuild their interface, simplify architecture, and improve debugging and localization workflows. With Unity, the team reduced prototype development from days to hours, cut merge conflicts from several per week to zero, and made UI iteration and polishing much faster across Timberborn’s 12-language interface.
