A Unity Case Study
Sycoforge, a Zurich-based indie game studio, was building the ambitious transmedia RPG *Return to Nangrim* and needed a version control system that could support a highly distributed team of developers, artists, freelancers, and players. Their existing Git-based tool was built for programmers, struggled with huge art files and binaries, and created slow load times, merge conflicts, and fear of committing. Unity Version Control from Unity DevOps was a better fit for their creative, community-driven workflow.
Unity helped Sycoforge migrate from Bitbucket/Git to Unity Version Control in under a week, using both the developer-focused workflow and the simplified Gluon interface for non-technical contributors. The switch empowered artists to manage versioning themselves, made merge conflicts negligible, and increased commits by more than 300%, while also improving collaboration and speeding up iteration across the team.
