How Rollerdrome quickly expanded from PC to consoles

Roll7, a remote UK game studio, needed to launch its action shooter Rollerdrome across PC and console platforms while preserving a highly customized in-house renderer and the game’s distinctive cartoony look. To meet that challenge, the team used Unity’s multiplatform capabilities, Editor workflow, and game engine extensibility to bring the game to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 alongside PC.

With Unity, Roll7 built and debugged multiplatform versions of Rollerdrome, using tools like the Frame Debugger, Unity Test Framework, Smart Strings localization, and Integrated Success Services to resolve rendering issues and streamline testing. The result was 4K 120 fps performance on next-generation platforms, successful cross-platform builds, and faster QA cycles, with all tests running in 45 minutes or less.
