SYBO, the Copenhagen-based studio behind Subway Surfers, needed a development platform that could support a tiny team at launch and then scale to a massive global player base. Using Unity Enterprise, along with Unity’s mobile development, asset management, and monetization tools, SYBO built and continuously evolved a free-to-play endless runner that had to keep up with rapid growth, frequent updates, and performance demands across Android, iOS, and Amazon devices.
Unity helped SYBO optimize gameplay, performance, content delivery, and monetization through tools like Addressables, Unity Ads, IAP, the Profiler, and the Frame Debugger, while also collaborating on engine improvements using SYBO’s user data and crash logs. The partnership helped Subway Surfers surpass 3 billion downloads, reach over 100 million monthly active users, and deliver over 1 billion ad impressions per month, making it one of the top mobile games of all time.
