A Unity Case Study
Obayashi, a Japan-based construction company, needed a way to make large 3D BIM and point cloud models accessible during the construction phase for workers and stakeholders without high-performance devices or specialized software skills. Unity helped address this challenge with real-time 3D tools, including Unity Engine, Pixyz, and Unity Asset Manager, to support the development of Obayashi’s immersive collaboration application, CONNECTIA®.
Using Unity, Obayashi built CONNECTIA® to efficiently render complex models on low-spec PCs, preserve metadata, and simplify sharing and updates across projects. The solution also sped up development with a pre-built project and added features like measurement, SSO login, timeliner, real-time view, and annotations. In a six-month trial across about 20 sites, 71% of the 14 surveyed sites expected a reduction of 10 or more hours per person per month, showing clear productivity gains from Unity’s platform.
