A Unity Case Study
Tuatara Games, a Vancouver-based studio of 33 people, used Unity to build its early access multiplayer brawler, Bare Butt Boxing. Facing the challenge of creating a low-latency, physics-based game on a foundation that could evolve with player feedback, the team needed a scalable, flexible stack for desktop, Steam Deck, and future console releases.
Unity’s data-oriented technology stack (DOTS), including ECS and the Burst compiler, helped Tuatara modularize systems and improve performance, while Multiplay Hosting and other Unity Gaming Services supported responsive online gameplay. With Unity, the team cut network client prediction costs by half, stayed on schedule after testing three networking solutions, and saved an estimated three months of research, prototyping, and integration.
