The University of Vienna, Austria’s largest and best-known university (founded in 1365, with about 92,000 students, 9,500 staff, 18 faculties and 60 locations), launched a December 2010 tender to replace its legacy communications system. The university sought a unified communications solution for 7,000–10,000 users to support increasingly mobile international users and enable secure, reliable communication from any device.

Unify delivered a modular, campus-wide UC solution across 40 sites—including OpenScape Voice V7, OpenStage deskphones and soft clients, OpenScape UC app, voicemail/fax, Exchange integration, a contact center, mobile integration for 700 phones and web collaboration—rolled out flexibly to minimize disruption. The result is a state-of-the-art IP communications platform that supports BYOD, improves functionality and mobility, and significantly lowered management and maintenance overhead.
