Mannheim Breaks New Ground In Communications With Unify

The City of Mannheim (pop. ~325,000) set out to become one of Germany’s most modern city administrations and needed to modernize communications for roughly 7,000 users. Key challenges were to simplify and integrate all channels (email, fax, IM, telephony), link desktops and mobile devices, avoid in‑house administration through a managed service, achieve predictable per‑workstation costs, and provide a single point of contact for all communications.

Unify won the tender and delivered a full managed‑service solution based on geo‑redundant OpenScape Voice systems, a virtualized environment (~3,500 ports), Outlook/Lync integration, UC apps, a contact center (including the single local number 115) and enhanced security. The result was 99.999% availability, improved staff availability and cross‑site collaboration, faster citizen service and higher first‑contact resolution, predictable budgets, and a streamlined, secure communications platform.
