Dixons Carphone, Europe’s largest independent mobile communications retailer with over 1,300 stores and an in-house technology arm (ISe‑Net Solutions), needed an agile, platform‑independent development environment that was fast to learn and could adapt to changing technologies and multi‑country requirements. After experimenting with J2EE for some projects, the company found those tools less productive and sought a faster, more maintainable approach for its core retail, inventory, finance and web systems.

The group standardized on Uniface as its strategic development platform, using it to build and integrate key applications (POS/PIE, inventory management, finance front‑ends, CMS and data capture) on a scalable OpenVMS/Oracle infrastructure. The switch delivered 2–3× higher developer productivity, consistent modular applications that support multiple countries and languages, real‑time performance across hundreds of stores, and a proven, reliable platform that now underpins Dixons Carphone’s core systems and ongoing growth.
