States Assembly launches petitions in 5 weeks with Unboxed, gaining 164,852 signatures

The States Assembly, the government of Jersey, needed to create an online platform to make it easier for its citizens to submit petitions and engage with their government. They engaged the vendor Unboxed to develop this public engagement solution.

Unboxed implemented a solution by reusing the open source code from the UK Government's petitions platform. This Ruby on Rails development approach allowed them to launch a tailored site in just five weeks. The results were significant, with over 164,000 signatures submitted and 58 petitions receiving official responses from ministers, greatly increasing public participation in Jersey's democracy.
