Scottish Parliament launches petition service in 12 weeks with Unboxed

The Scottish Parliament wanted to create an accessible digital service to make it easier for its citizens to submit a petition. They engaged the vendor Unboxed, which had extensive experience building petitions platforms for other government bodies, to develop this solution using their open source software and development expertise.

Unboxed implemented a flexible service by reusing and adapting much of the code from a previous platform built for the Welsh Senedd. This approach allowed them to quickly deliver a live, working service tailored to the Scottish Parliament's specific needs within 12 weeks. The result is petitions.parliament.scot, where people in Scotland can now create and submit a petition in just a few minutes. Unboxed's solution has already supported the creation of over 300 petitions.
