Buckinghamshire Council launches a 99.1% accessible website in 12 weeks with Unboxed

Buckinghamshire Council faced the challenge of merging five separate district council websites into a single, user-focused platform for its new unitary authority. They partnered with Unboxed to design and develop a new website using the Wagtail content management system (CMS), aiming to improve the online experience for residents by adopting a 'user needs first' approach aligned with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards.

Unboxed implemented the solution by conducting extensive user research, creating a design system, and performing a comprehensive content audit. The new website was successfully launched as an MVP in just 12 weeks, meeting the critical vesting day deadline. The results were highly positive, with the site achieving a 99.1% accessibility score against the WCAG 2.1 AA standard and establishing a new, agile content management process for the council. Unboxed's work empowered the digital team to continue transitioning legacy content and maintain user-centred practices for future projects.
