Working smarter and harder, thanks to robots

The Road Safety Authority (RSA), Ireland’s public sector agency for road safety, was burdened by legacy systems that didn’t integrate and required staff to manually move data between them. This created a heavy workload of repetitive, non-value administrative tasks across services such as driving test cancellations and customer queries. UiPath helped RSA address these challenges with robotic process automation (RPA).

UiPath implemented bots to automate high-volume processes, starting with “Pat” for driving test cancellations and later expanding to reminders, certificate extensions, and other legacy-system workflows. The results were significant: about 80% of cancellations tasks were automated, more than 30 tasks were automated in total, and robots saved around 2,500 days of work. RSA also used 12 robots during 2020, including 10 bots to extend 450,000 commercial vehicle roadworthiness testing certificates, improving efficiency and freeing staff for higher-value work.
