Why switching to ‘autopilot’ has been such a success for Avinor

Avinor, the state-owned Norwegian airport operator handling more than 50 million passengers across 44 airports, faced growing workloads in its facilities center as a small team managed finance, accounting, HR, records, archiving, and customer service tasks. With many employees nearing retirement and thousands of repetitive manual processes to complete, the organization needed a way to improve efficiency without replacing staff. UiPath, working with Sopra Steria, provided robotic process automation (RPA) and machine learning to help.

UiPath’s automation program, centered on the “Roy” autopilot, streamlined invoice processing, approvals, and customer enquiry handling. Avinor automated more than 20 processes, including the handling of over 100,000 invoices per year and 6,000 annual complaints and enquiries, reducing process times by 90% on average and freeing the equivalent of three full-time employees. The solution also improved data quality, reduced abandoned cases, and helped staff focus on higher-value work while supporting Avinor’s long-term efficiency and employee wellbeing goals.
