Thermo Fisher Scientific, a global healthcare and scientific equipment company, needed a faster way to manage a high volume of vendor invoices during the COVID-19 pandemic. With thousands of vendors sending semi-structured documents in different formats, the company was manually extracting data from PDFs and entering it into ERP systems, creating a time-consuming, repetitive bottleneck.
To address this, Thermo Fisher Scientific implemented UiPath Document Understanding, along with UiPath Action Center and UiPath AI Center, to automate invoice and payment processing across regions and ERPs. The solution reduced invoice processing time by 70%, achieved 53% straight-through processing, and reached 82.4% accuracy in document reading, helping free up the equivalent workload of eight full-time employees while supporting the processing of about 824,000 invoices annually.
