The UK's Largest Government Department Transforms Business Processes with RPA

The Department for Work and Pensions, the UK’s largest government department responsible for welfare and pension payments, faced high manual workloads, backlogs and the need to cut costs and improve service delivery — including a backlog of over 30,000 new pension claims. To address this, the Department for Work and Pensions turned to UiPath and the UiPath Enterprise RPA Platform to automate routine tasks and increase capacity.

UiPath worked with the Department for Work and Pensions via its “Intelligent Automation Garage,” delivering four pilots in 12 weeks and deploying UiPath Robots to automate claims processing. Twelve Robots processed 2,500 claims per week and cleared the 30,000‑claim backlog in two weeks; DWP now runs 50 UiPath Robots, has 10 automated processes (targeting 20+), reports an estimated 15:1 ROI, and can create a new Robot in three minutes and add 20 Robots in ten minutes to meet peak demand.
