The robots helping Ireland’s health system deal with the pandemic

The Health Service Executive (HSE), Ireland’s national public healthcare organization, faced major operational strain during COVID-19 and needed a better way to handle repetitive, high-volume administrative work such as employee vetting and infectious disease reporting. UiPath’s robotic process automation (RPA) platform was introduced through HSE’s Health Business Services to help relieve staff pressure and improve processing speed.

UiPath deployed software robots to automate income reporting, employee vetting checks, and manual COVID-19 case entry into the national infectious disease reporting system. The results were significant: one robot processed in 1 hour what previously took employees 5 days, the HSE saved over 22,000 hours between September and December 2020, and each 100 COVID cases automated returned 38 hours to staff. UiPath helped HSE improve efficiency, speed up hiring, and free clinical and public health staff to focus on higher-value work.
