Spain’s ONCE brings efficiency and effectiveness to its complex operations thanks to automation

Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles (ONCE), the Spanish foundation supporting blind and visually impaired people, faced heavy manual, paper-based processes across HR, procurement and lottery operations while needing strict accuracy, accessibility and regulatory compliance. Project Manager Emilio Campin engaged the UiPath RPA platform to prove automation could increase efficiency and safety without displacing staff, and to ensure any solution would work with ONCE’s accessible IT environment.

UiPath implemented proof-of-concept robots to automate lottery stock reporting (26 products × 28 centers = 728 reports), turning a monthly, hours‑long manual task into weekly reports with minimal human checking, and to monitor and route Government Social Security notifications to the right departments. Today two UiPath Robots and one Orchestrator run nearly 50 processes, ONCE estimates more than 46,000 hours saved since 2018, and automation handled over 500 employee loans during COVID—freeing HR to focus on higher‑value work.
