Increasing Customer Focus Through Automation at the Trelleborg Municipality in Sweden

Trelleborg Municipality, the southernmost municipality in Sweden with about 44,000 inhabitants and significant planned population growth, faced growing administrative strain as citizen needs diversified. The municipal leadership chose robotic process automation (RPA) to revise workflows and free staff for more citizen-focused work, selecting UiPath (using UiPath Robots and the UiPath Platform) for its ease of integration with legacy systems and quick implementation.

Working with consulting firm Valcon, UiPath implemented RPA across Social Services and the Labour Market administration to automate home care applications, benefits processing, tax/duty handling and related tasks. The deployment automated more than 6,500 transactions from Spring to Fall 2017 and delivered clear gains: administrative time savings of 79% in Social Services and 95% in Labour Market, 50% higher participation in labour market initiatives, 12% more citizens starting work or studies, a 44% reduction in labour market initiative costs, 22% lower financial support costs and a 60% drop in administration costs—allowing employees to focus on higher-value citizen services.
