How RPA is delivering daily for the Royal Mail Group

Royal Mail, the UK postal and courier group employing over 160,000 people and delivering billions of items annually, faced rising digital pressures and the need to boost efficiency without increasing headcount. To modernize back-office operations in Finance and HR and address frequent manual errors and repetitive tasks, Royal Mail turned to UiPath’s Robotic Process Automation (RPA) platform to explore and scale automation.

Using UiPath, Royal Mail ran named Proofs of Value (Marvin, Winston and Ruby), set up a Centre of Excellence combining process simplification with automation, and rolled out bots across shared services. The UiPath-powered automations grew from 9 to 50 robots, were developed in around 4–6 weeks each, delivered more than £4.5 million in value in 2018/19, cut incorrect customer set‑up forms from ~40% to about a quarter of that within three weeks, and saved the equivalent time of multiple full‑time employees while improving process quality and scalability.
