How automation improves policing operations to better serve the community

West Midlands Police, the second-largest police force in the UK, needed to reduce the burden of paperwork and back-office administration so officers and staff could spend more time focused on public safety. UiPath provided software robot automation to help streamline processes across shared services, IT and Digital, and operational policing.

Using UiPath’s RPA platform, West Midlands Police automated 16 processes across eight departments, including shift-pattern changes, overtime requests, witness statement handling, and vetting checks. The results included 78,000 transactions and more than 18,000 hours saved overall, plus 50,000 transactions and 12,000 hours saved in the last 12 months alone; one shift-change process dropped from 10 business days to 90 minutes, and witness statement processing has saved 3,000 officer hours since June 2020.
