Empowering employees behind impressive RPA drive at Valmet

Valmet, the Espoo‑headquartered global developer and supplier of technologies for the pulp, paper and energy industries, faced an ambitious challenge: to rapidly scale Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to free employees from mundane tasks, improve data quality, and support a large ERP transformation. To meet aggressive targets — including a goal to automate 70 processes by the end of 2021 and compress three years of maturity into a much shorter timeframe — Valmet selected UiPath technology and RPA‑as‑a‑Service, working with implementation partner Digital Workforce.

Using UiPath and Digital Workforce’s RPA‑as‑a‑Service, Valmet established a Center of Excellence, an RPA management committee and a fast‑track program with reusable templates to accelerate deployments; four automations were delivered into production in May 2020. The impact has been measurable: VAT filing dropped from 2–3 days to five minutes, supplier‑master data validation fell from 2–3 days to under three hours, and one inter‑company buying robot is expected to free the equivalent of about 15 FTEs per year. UiPath’s platform enabled Valmet to scale automation, boost process efficiency and reallocate skilled staff to higher‑value work.
