Document understanding revolutionizes processes for E/D/E

Einkaufsbüro Deutscher Eisenhändler (E/D/E), a Germany-based purchasing group serving ironmongers, tradespeople, and the construction sector, needed to streamline a highly manual finance and operations environment spread across thousands of members, suppliers, and partners. Working with UiPath, the company began automating repetitive tasks such as VAT validation, reporting, and credit-risk checks, while also exploring document understanding to handle complex supplier documents.

UiPath implemented software robots and document understanding to extract and process data from varied order confirmation documents and other records, reducing manual effort and improving scalability. The impact was significant: one VAT validation process dropped from six hours and €500 in fees to 50 minutes, a credit-check automation for 20,000 debtors was completed in three and a half weeks instead of six months, and E/D/E now runs 25 automated processes with each paying for itself within a year.
