From 27 days to 12 hours—how the VA reinvented claims processing

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) needed to modernize a paper-heavy, manual claims process that created long backlogs and delays for veterans seeking benefits. UiPath, working through IBM’s ATOM managed service automation platform, helped the VA move from physical files and slow intake to a digital, centralized claims workflow.

Using UiPath capabilities such as unattended automation, Orchestrator, OCR, and NLP, the VA automated claims intake, data extraction, validation, and claim establishment across more than 400 processes. UiPath helped the VA process 21.2 million claim packets, extract data from up to 6.6 million pages per day, reduce claim establishment time from 27 days to 12 hours, and automatically establish 75% of claims with no human intervention.
