A travel company attracts followers by auctioning vacation deals for charity

Transat, a leader in the Canadian travel industry, wanted a fresh way to drive Cyber Monday sales, create buzz, and reward loyal customers with vacation deals. To do this, Transat turned to Twitter and launched a real-time, auction-based promotion that let users bid on vacation packages directly through their Twitter accounts.

Using Twitter’s Promoted Tweets, Promoted Trend #transatauction, and REST APIs, Transat built an auction microsite and encouraged people to tweet about their participation to spread the campaign further. Twitter helped Transat generate more than six million impressions, over 45,000 mentions, more than 160,000 visits to the microsite, a 16% follower increase, 6,481 new followers, and over CAD $50,000 raised for charity.
