A Tungsten Automation Case Study
United Bank Limited (UBL), Pakistan’s second-largest private bank with over 1,400 domestic branches and a global presence, faced a slow, manual cheque-clearing process that took three to four days and often left customers waiting weeks for instrument status. With no central imaging or archival system and two to three staff per branch dedicated to clearing, the bank sought faster processing, lower costs, and value-added services like online instrument statements and merchant payments.
UBL deployed an NCR solution customized with Kofax Capture and Kofax VRS Elite to eliminate deposit slips, scan and OCR/ICR cheque data, and transmit images to a central processing unit. The automated system—scanning about 30,000 pages daily—removed scan operators, dramatically reduced clearing cycles, improved float visibility, cut operating costs, and enabled new services including online instrument statements, merchant payments and Cash Management Transactions.
