A Tungsten Automation Case Study
TransMontaigne, a North American distributor of refined petroleum products, faced a decentralized accounts payable process that created many touch points, high error rates and slow cycle times: of 56,000 annual invoices, 85–95% were paid late and average receipt-to-payment time was 32–34 days. The manual routing—local terminals to Atlanta operations to Denver AP—drove costs and poor visibility and prompted a goal to centralize and automate invoicing.
Working with SAP partner Kofax and deploying Kofax ReadSoft Invoices, TransMontaigne centralized scanning in Atlanta, integrated front-end capture with SAP and automated routing, coding and approvals. Within six months invoice cycle time fell to under seven days (1099 processing from 15 to 2 days), transaction cost dropped from $30 to under $7, monthly accruals fell by $1M, duplicate payments were cut 90%, AP manager time fell from ~60 to 15 hours/week, and vendor discounts covered the project cost in the first year.
