A Tungsten Automation Case Study
Sacramento Ear, Nose & Throat (SacENT), a nine‑location practice supporting 400 workstations and 65 printers, faced a major printing challenge when implementing the Epic EHR required by Sutter Health’s Community Connect program. Replacing printers wasn’t feasible, and Epic’s mapping requirements would have burdened IT and risked lost or misdirected patient documents, so SacENT needed a way to standardize printing, manage queues, and provide failover without swapping hardware.
SacENT deployed Kofax Output Manager and Kofax AutoStore to centralize print control, enable badge‑released printing, route scanned documents, and enforce color and security policies (meeting NISTIR 8023 requirements). The solution avoided a costly printer replacement, reduced paper waste, simplified IT management, improved patient document security and staff efficiency, and was praised by Epic/Sutter consultants during go‑live.
