PPL Corporation Streamlines Invoice Processing Operations Throughout the Organization

PPL Corporation, a leading energy provider serving about 4 million customers, faced a high-volume payments challenge: its services group processes more than 1 million customer payments monthly and over 150,000 vendor invoices annually. PPL wanted a “digital mailroom” to convert paper vendor invoices into electronic images and data to improve operating efficiency and short-term cash forecasting, but its initial template-based scanning system was slow, labor-intensive and struggled with diverse invoice formats and sizes.

PPL engaged BizTech to implement a Kofax enterprise capture solution—Kofax Capture and Kofax Transformation—linked to OPEX 3690i scanners via a BizTech import utility. The automated classification and data-extraction workflow eliminated per-vendor templates, handled varied fonts and formats, and routed clean data into downstream systems. As a result, PPL now processes more than 150,000 paper invoices annually with greater accuracy, faster throughput and reduced manual effort, freeing staff to focus on exceptions and improving cash visibility.
