A Tungsten Automation Case Study
Northwood Health Systems, a 500-employee behavioral health provider in Wheeling, West Virginia, faced rising regulatory demands, an expanding patient load and a fragmented process for getting paper and electronic records into its Microsoft SharePoint repository. The IT team struggled with disparate capture tools and a massive backlog (more than 3.9 million pages) while processing roughly 500,000 documents per year, creating delays that hindered clinical workflows and Meaningful Use goals.
IT Director Tom Dzmura implemented Kofax AutoStore to provide enterprise capture and integrate all inputs—scanners, web apps and electronic forms—into SharePoint. Rolled out first to AP and HR and then to clinical records, the solution automated 25+ workflows, handled more than 10,000 documents weekly, balanced OCR loads across servers, and cut chart-update times from hours to minutes. The result: faster, secure access to near-real-time patient records, improved staff collaboration, streamlined operations and stronger regulatory compliance.
