A Tungsten Automation Case Study
Banca Popolare di Milano (BPM), a leading cooperative bank in Italy with more than 1.4 million customers and nearly 800 branches, launched a Smart Center to centralize and streamline paper-based processes like matured invoices and credit transfers. The bank needed to reduce transport and manual processing times, improve productivity across 800 points of sale, and meet customer demand for faster service while keeping control of workflows internally rather than using external providers.
BPM implemented Kofax capture and Kofax Web Capture, integrating the platform with core banking systems to automate dematerialization and centralize document classification and validation. As a result, Smart Center operators now process files directly and return documents for branch validation the same day—94% of invoices are processed within two days and 73% on the first day, urgent invoices can be cleared in under an hour, staff were retrained for the new tools, and the bank plans to extend the solution to other document types to further cut costs and manual work.
