A Tungsten Automation Case Study
BPS-Statistics Indonesia, the government agency responsible for nationwide censuses across nearly 17,845 islands, faced a massive logistics and data challenge: more than 254 million people, up to 700,000 temporary enumerators, unreliable power in remote areas, and a hard six-month deadline to deliver accurate census results. Manual processing of millions of pages had previously required up to two years, making timely, high-quality results nearly impossible without a technical overhaul.
By deploying a suite of Tungsten solutions—Capture, Transformation, Monitor, Mobile Capture, TotalAgility, RPA and Insight—BPS automated capture, validation and processing, enabled mobile uploads from remote areas, and automated online monitoring and analysis. The results were dramatic: processes that once would have taken two years were cut to months (260 million pages processed in three months for the 2013 agricultural census, a >90% time saving), improved data quality and faster insights, and confidence to process an expected 240+ million pages for the 2016 economic census within three months.
