Duncan & Son Lines Connects Dispatch Planners with Timely Logistics Data

Duncan & Son Lines is a family-owned drayage and logistics firm operating over 220 trucks that moves roughly 6,000 containers a month to and from the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. Manual monitoring of port websites to capture container availability slowed dispatch planning, increased the risk of driver wait time and demurrage fees, and threatened margins given tight service expectations and hours-of-service constraints.

The company deployed Kofax Robotic Process Automation to build software robots that automatically capture container data, update its transport management system, process emailed orders and support invoicing. Within a month several robots were live and a year later 70 were in production, delivering an ROI in nine months, cutting 11 staff hours per day, enabling growth without extra hires, and giving dispatchers timely data to maximize fleet utilization and reduce costs.
