Elkhart General Hospital, an independent, not‑for‑profit community hospital in Elkhart, Ind., needed a clear, data‑driven view of its outpatient market position to support stable growth. Publicly available, trended outpatient data were limited, so the hospital could not accurately quantify where it was gaining or losing share or how to prioritize business development and physician relations.
Elkhart partnered with Truven Health Analytics, combining two years of the hospital’s outpatient data with Truven’s Market Expert outpatient claims and strategic consulting to build an outpatient market growth profile and estimate market share. The analysis identified underperforming service lines (notably Imaging), pinpointed physician drivers and shifting practice patterns, and informed targeted strategies that were implemented and maintained as part of an ongoing outpatient plan — work that contributed to a Truven Healthcare Advantage Award.
