Using BIM to Create a Multi-Trade State of the Art Water Treatment Plant

G. M. McCrossin Inc., an ENR Top 500 specialty contractor based in Bellefonte, PA, was contracted to deliver the process piping, mechanical piping, and ductwork for a state-of-the-art water treatment plant at Pennsylvania State University. Confronted with miles of stainless piping, late equipment selections, equipment models supplied in Autodesk Inventor, and only an LOD 250 Revit model lacking fabrication detail, they needed a solution to coordinate trades, prefabricate pipework, and meet a tight schedule using Trimble MEP’s Trimble SysQue with Autodesk Revit MEP.

Trimble MEP’s Trimble SysQue converted the engineer’s model into intelligent, constructible pipework using native Revit components, manufacturer part numbers, and real‑world joining methods, while enabling parametric integration of Inventor equipment, automated spool/shop drawings, BOMs and LOD 400 fabrication docs and model delivery to the field via Autodesk A360. The result for G. M. McCrossin Inc. was 100% off‑site prefabrication with no field welds, installation in a fraction of the time with significantly less labor, and improved coordination, procurement and schedule outcomes.
