Prout Boiler Heating & Weld Inc. is a Youngstown, Ohio–based commercial and industrial plumbing, HVAC and process piping contractor that served as plumbing contractor and trade coordinator on the $42.5M Salem Regional Medical Center New Patient Bed Tower. Facing an 18‑month fast‑track schedule that required multi‑trade coordination and extensive prefabrication, Prout relied on Trimble MEP tools—including Trimble AutoBid Mechanical for quick estimating and Trimble PipeDesigner 3D (and later Trimble DuctDesigner 3D) for 3D detailing—to meet aggressive bidding, detailing and fabrication timelines.

Using Trimble MEP solutions, Prout produced 3D models, automatic bills of materials and fabrication drawings, coordinated plumbing, HVAC, fire protection and electrical systems in‑house, and prefabricated 60 corridor racks plus bathroom pods for installation before exterior walls were complete. The Trimble MEP workflow cut bid turnaround to a day or two with AutoBid, enabled winning follow‑on work, supported delivery on the 18‑month schedule for the $42.5M project, and—per Prout—PipeDesigner 3D has “paid for itself tenfold,” improving accuracy, reducing waste and speeding installation.
