North Mechanical Cuts $1 Million in Shared Costs for Lab Building Project by Speeding Design, Fabrication and Install with Trimble SysQue

North Mechanical Contracting & Service, an Indianapolis-based full-service mechanical contractor, needed to speed and make more accurate the design-to-fabrication workflow for piping, fittings and hangers on a large research lab build. To eliminate manual takeoffs, reduce rework and produce fabrication-ready models, the company adopted Trimble MEP’s solutions, principally Trimble SysQue (alongside Trimble Field Link for MEP and RTS Series Robotic Total Station).

Using Trimble MEP’s SysQue to create Revit LOD 400, manufacturer-specific models and export field points, North Mechanical generated precise schedules, spool drawings and labels that drove off-site fabrication and just-in-time delivery. The results included about $1 million in shared project savings (≈10%), fabrication of 60,000 linear feet of pipe and over six dozen skids with roughly 90% of piping prefabricated off-site, a 50% reduction in peak onsite labor, 400% faster takeoffs, and zero change orders due to coordination issues—demonstrating Trimble MEP’s central role in improving speed, accuracy and cost.
