Mechanical Contractor Drives Robotic Efficiency on High-Rise Tower

Triple M LocalWorks, a leading Australian mechanical contractor, faced a fast-track 54‑story office tower that required locating up to 540 points per floor for ducts, hangers and pipes. Conventional methods (tape, plumb bob, stationary laser) would have taken three people three days per floor and led to rework and delays, so the team adopted Trimble MEP’s Trimble MEP Layout Solution (RTS Robotic Total Station, Trimble Nomad and MEP layout software) to meet tight schedule and accuracy demands.

Using the Trimble MEP Layout Solution, Triple M LocalWorks downloaded 3D hanger locations to the field and was able to locate all hanging bracket points in one day and drill/install them the next, delivering 100% install per design. The robotic workflow cut layout time dramatically, saved about AU$70,000 in layout costs on the project, reduced rework, and achieved payback in roughly eight months, improving site efficiency and allowing crews to work on clear decks before other trades.
